Rep. Carolyn Maloney's Credit Card Bill Endorsed by Federal Reserve Board                                 May 6

Representative Carolyn Maloney recently introduced a credit card fairness bill that for the first time imposes strict limits on the issuer's ability to hide fees and raise interest rates. Consumer groups have hailed this as a major step in helping people deal with credit card debt.

Nick Leibham continues to impress                        January 30
Running for an open seat outside San Diego, Nick Leibham reported another solid quarter of fundraising for the seat occupied by Brian Bilbray. In just two quarters, Nick has raised more money than any other Democratic candidate in the district has raised in an entire two year cycle. Nick now has over $200,000 in the bank and should be added to the Red to Blue list shortly.

Wynn & Maloney report record finance reports   January 31
Congressman Albert Wynn reported raising over $600,000 in PAC funds as of January 31, 2008 easily exceeding the $475,000 in PAC funds he raised all of last cycle. Mr. Wynn faces a Primary with Donna Edwards who also opposed him in 2006. Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney reported raising over $400,000 in PAC funds in 2007 and is on track to double the amount she raised in the 2006 cycle. Ms. Maloney won her last race with 83% of the vote.

DCCC lists Gary Trauner as a Top Seven Target   January 8

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has put Gary Trauner on their Red to Blue list as one of the top seven candidates. The Red to Blue list is the top seats that the campaign committee believes can be won this cycle. Candidates on the list are featured prominently on the DCCC's website which leads to financial and political support from around the country.

Colin Simpson drops out of Race     December 5

Touted as the Republican's best candidate to oppose Gary Trauner, the son of Senator Alan Simpson has decided not to run against Trauner for the open seat.The Republican Primary still remains muddled as several potential candidates weigh a run against Trauner who came within 978 votes of upsetting incumbent Barbara Cubin in 2006.

Moran accuses Ackerman of helping Israel   November 16
Representative Jim Moran was quoted in today's The Hill newspaper as blaming Representative Gary Ackerman for thwarting a bill designed requiring congressinal approval before the President could take any military action against Iran.In response to a question, Moran specifically mentioned Mr. Ackerman and AIPAC as those who engaged in "frenzied" lobbying against the bill. Mr. Ackerman's response was, "I'm proud of my work on that bill." Mr. Moran has a long history of objecting to the lobbying efforst of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.

Barbara Cubin Retires; Crowded GOP Field to test Trauner   November 10
Congresswoman Barbara Cubin of Wyoming,a 7 term incumbent announced her retirement today. Cubin, who defeated Gary Trauner by only 987 votes in 2006 leaves a field of several GOP candidates to fight for the nomination in August. Political insiders are already pointing to the significant financial advantage Trauner is expected to have once the Republicans finally decide on their candidate. The GOP nominee will have barely eleven weeks in which to raise what is expected to be a $2 million congressional race on both sides.

Carolyn Maloney Raising at Record Level  October 17
Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, subject of Senate rumors should Senator Clinton win the nomination and the election, reported raising over $700,000 so far in 2007. Ms. Maloney won her race in 2006 with over 80% of the vote.

Wynn Reports $400,000 in Bank   October 17
Congressman Albert Wynn reported over $400,000 in the bank at the end of the third quarter. He is being challenged once again by Donna Edwards who reported having less than $116,000 in the third quarter filings.

Mr. Trauner came within 973 votes of upsetting 14 year incumbent Barbara Cubin in Wyoming and vows this time that he will bring a red state into the blue column on Election Day.

Watson Takes Lead in Korea Free Trade Agreement August 22
Congresswoman Diane Watson and Korean Ambassador Lee Tae Sik spent the day attending a variety of events to highlight the growing trade relationship between the United States and Korea. The day started with a discussion of antipiracy and intellectual property followed by a lunch with Korean War Veterans, continued with a visit to an elementary school with a high population of Korean students, a visit with local Korean community leaders and a televised town hall meeting. The evening was capped with a reception at the Consul General's residence during which business leaders pledged to work closely to ensure the ultimate passage of the Korean Free Trade Agreement with the U.S.

Leibham Closes in on Bilbray  August 10
Challenger Nick Leibham reported raising $89,700 in the second quarter of 2008. Mr. Leibham, who announced in April trails the incumbent Brian Bilbray by only $135,000. With California expected to be a major winner for the Democrats in 2008, insiders are paying close attention to what could be an upset in the making.

Trauner Files in Wyoming   August 1
Gary Trauner, who came within 973 votes of upsetting incumbent Barbara Cubin has filed to oppose Ms. Cubin in the 2008 Election. Cubin, who suprised everyone by almost losing in 2006 has yet to announce her intentions for 2008. She customarily announces in Feburary of the even year. Trauner easily catapaults into the top 5 targeted races for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee which is expected to assist and follow this race very closely.

Maloney,Wynn post record second quarter numbers  July 16
Representative Carolyn Maloney, Chair of the sub-committee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit reproted raising $531,000 so far this cycle. Congressman Albert Wynn, Chair of the sub-committee on the environment and hazardous waste reported raising $461,000 so far this cycle. While Ms. Maloney currently has no opponent, Mr. Wynn is being opposed once again by Donna Edwards. Ms. Edwards reported raising only $130,000 and has almost $300,000 LESS in the bank than does Mr. Wynn.

Wynn anticipates record quarter     June 30
Congressman Albert Wynn expects to report a record quarter of fundraising when the final FEC figures are released on July 16, 2007. Mr. Wynn, who narrowly defeated challenger Donna Edwards in a 2006 Primary challenge said he does not intend to be outspent or surprised this time. Wynn is currently the Chair of the Sub-Committee on Hazardous Waste and the Environment on the Energy & Commerce Committee.

Carolyn Maloney Positioning for Possible U.S. Senate Vacancy     June 21

ccording to an  article in The New York Observer, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney could be eyeing the potential Senate vacancy if Senator Hillary Clinton is nominated and elected President in 2008. The article quote several Maloney supporters and political pundits as speculating that Ms. Maloney's singificantly increased fundraising schedule and campaign cash on hand rapidly approaching one million dollars, is evidence that she is making plans should the seat become available. Ms Maloney would not comment other than to say that Ms.Clinton is an excellent Senator. According to New York law, the Governor would appoint an interim replacement who would then run for election in November, 2010 to the unexpired term (2012).

Nick Leibham files to oppose Brian Bilbray     June 14
Nick Leibham filed to run against Congressman Brian Bilbray last week. Mr. Leibham is expected to be unopposed in the Democratic Primary and has the full backing of the DCCC in this race. While the district has a Republican majority, Senator Feinstein won the district and Senator Boxer only lost by 312 votes. Nick will be focusing on the large chunk of unaffiliate voters who traditionally decide elections.

The above headline from The Lens, one of the leading newspapers in Ghana sums up the success of the strategy that former Vice President Attah Mills is having in his campaign to be President. After an unsuccessful campaign in 2004, Vice President Mills retained Silverberg Associates and in less than two months, his campaign has turned around. The article goes on to state that Mills' community to community strategy is causing distress and concern in the camp of the NPP, the party of President Kufour whose final term ends in December, 2008.

Ackerman Annual NY Deli Event Surpasses 200 guests    May 16
Congressman Gary Ackerman's Annual NY Deli Event, held this year at the historic Sewall Belmont House, saw over 200 guests attend. In addition, 26 Members of Congress including one Republican and 3 Senators came by to sample kosher pastrami, corned beef, roast beef, matzoh ball soup, hot dogs, knishes, noodle pudding and endless desserts.
